# Communication

There are several methods to communicate with someone else on the platform. 

**Staff**  has access to all comments regardless of the user's selection in the **Visible to** setting.

The **Partner** role are host organizations, service providers, and other external entities  outside of OTF. Please go to the section on [user roles](/otf-hypha-field-guide/start/user-roles/partner.md) for more information. 

To communicate or send a message, you will need to select a specific role that would have access to this communication or message. For example, to communicate with an applicant, the user needs to select 'Applicant(s)' in **Visible to**.
